Did you know?
The UK government removed VAT on residential solar installations in April 2022, extended through March 2027. That's a 20% saving on your total system cost — roughly £1,600–£2,400 off a typical installation.

Rooftop solar panels are 'permitted development' in England, Scotland, and Wales — no planning application needed. Exceptions are listed buildings and some conservation areas. Our surveyor checks this during your free assessment.

    Did you know?
Solar panels use daylight, not direct sunshine. A cloudy day still produces 10–25% of peak output. Over a full year, the UK gets more than enough sunlight for excellent returns — that's why over 1.3 million UK homes already have solar.

    Did you know?
Modern panels degrade by only 0.3–0.5% per year. After 25 years they still generate over 80% of original output. Many installations from the 1990s are still running. Lunar Solar provides a 2-year workmanship warranty, and panel manufacturer terms vary by product.
Did you know?
Even on cloudy British days, modern solar panels still generate electricity by capturing daylight, not just direct sun. Even under overcast skies, they typically produce 10–30% of peak output.

Without a battery, a typical home exports unused daytime solar. A battery stores daytime surplus for evening use, so you can use more of your own generation and buy fewer peak-rate units.

We were told by two companies our cottage was a no-go. Conservation area, listed building, the lot. Lunar Solar put them on the back roof — you genuinely can't see them from the street.

Didn't expect much honestly, but our bills are properly down. Got a credit on our statement in July which was a nice surprise.

  • Priya K., Lunar Solar customer in Essex

    Priya K.

    Essex

We've got a metal roof on the barn so we weren't sure panels would work on it. They had everything done in a day and it looks really smart.

Mainly did it for the environment if I'm honest. The savings are a bonus though — didn't realise how much we'd actually notice on the bills.

Everyone said it wouldn't work up here — north-facing, rubbish weather. But it does. Bills are down over half even through winter.

We're actually getting paid for the electricity we don't use. It's not massive amounts but it adds up over the year.

  • Raj P., Lunar Solar customer in Bristol

    Raj P.

    Bristol

We worked it out and we'll have paid the whole thing off in about four years. After that it's just free electricity basically.

Our direct debit was £190 a month. It's £45 now. The battery makes a massive difference — we barely use the grid at all.

They were done in a day which I couldn't believe. Bit noisy for a few hours but by teatime the whole thing was up and running.

With the battery we're basically running the house ourselves. The app says 91% self-sufficient which is mad when you think about it.

We've got a south-facing roof so in summer we're exporting loads. The quarterly payments are a nice little earner.

We're retired so we're home all day using it. Our bills are a fraction of what they were — wish we'd done it years ago.

We charge the car off the panels now so we're basically driving for free. Between that and the house bills it's saved us a fortune.
